The Lötschental is to be found nestling between the majestic summits of the Bernese Oberland and the Valaisan Alps. It stretches from Goppenstein to the West as far as the Lötschenlücke to the East. The four villages of Ferden, Kippel, Wiler and Blatten, as well as Fafleralp – departure point for wonderful vacation days – are the major tourist attractions.
A good hour by train, via Goppenstein, is all it takes to link Bern and the Lötschental. Several leagues further for the fashionable resorts of the Bernese Oberland, Valais and the towns in the «Mittelland» and you will find yourself in another world where men, women and the environment have been marked by nature and the history of this valley which lived in a state of isolation that only came to an end with the construction of the Lötschberg railway in 1910.
